ON A DECISION (not to continue with a treatment), September 1998
I have lived long, and quiet in the night
I dream of days when I had thought
To change the world from wrong to right.
I cannot say those dreams have come to nought,
Because some people’s lives I’ve touched
Seem to have moved a different way.
But yet I would I had done more
For always I have yearned to aid the poor
And change their lives so that more
Can live in dignity. No jewels theirs,
Just daily lives then free of cares.
So in the darkness still I pray
That light will come and bring a day
When all will live in joy and love,
Inspired by that descending Dove.
