FILLIING A HOLE, April 1999

Reach for the stars, they said.
Per ardua ad astra. That is the way
That I can go beyond this room,
This house, and reach into infinity,
With brilliant colour, red and blue
And green and yellow, a garden in
The boundless sky, with flaming
Sunsets, filled with full orchestral
Sounds and little birds with darting eyes
And dancers in the guise of swans
With twinkling feet and tutus white.
And I can dream of oceans vast
Where I am riding on the waves and singing
Songs of high adventure. So then this
Body and this yearning mind are not
The prisons that they seem,
But lightly wafting on a breeze
To ride a moonbeam to the planets far.
