1.45am, July 1999
I have lingered long tonight
Pondering the vagaries of fate
Or rather thinking on that Providence
Which draws us to a time when
All converges on a single moment
Which enlightens us; a sentence which
We chance upon that makes a difference to anxieties,
And perception changes of our faults.
“You desire more patience? Ask for it.”
And so I have and now believe my Lord,
Who loves me as I am, gives me that gift
When I so dearly need it in these
My darkling nights, when all is quiet
And the mind is stilled from all its
Trivial, unproductive thoughts, but
Leans instead towards the light
That always leads us when we are wont to follow.
